GoBankingRates found that renting is more affordable than owning in Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, North Carolina, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming and Washington, D. C. But owning a home still beats renting in Florida.

In Florida, homeowners have the advantage. The study found that the average rent per month was $1,543 and the average monthly mortgage is $1,376. The difference amounts to about $2,000 a year that a Florida homeowner would save.
